Automated Ingestion of Password-Protected Bank Statements (HDFC, ICICI, SBI) to Tally Prime

Why Bank PDF Data Entry Drains Accounting Productivity

Every Chartered Accountant firm and corporate finance department in India spends days each quarter reconciling commercial bank statements. A typical business client with 3 active bank accounts generates over 600 transaction lines each month. Traditionally, accounts teams either manually type each line into Tally Prime or pay for costly manual bank reconciliation software.

To compound the frustration, official PDF statements downloaded from major Indian banks (HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, State Bank of India, Axis Bank, and Kotak Mahindra) arrive encrypted with complex password combinations (Customer ID + DOB, or First 4 letters of PAN + DDMM). Junior audit staff spend hours unlocking, copy-pasting, and fixing misaligned multi-line transaction narratives.

Algorithmic Narration Parsing: Classifying Contra vs Payment vs Receipt

EntryFlow uses multimodal vision and smart regex parsing to analyze raw banking narrations and auto-classify transactions into standard Tally voucher types:

Step-by-Step: Converting Bank Statements to Tally XML

  1. Navigate to /tools/bank-statement-to-excel or open the Bank Statements tab on the EntryFlow home screen.
  2. Select your bank (HDFC, ICICI, SBI, Axis, or Kotak) and provide the PDF statement (with password if encrypted).
  3. EntryFlow extracts dates, descriptions, cheque/ref numbers, debit/credit values, and running balances with 100% ledger validation.
  4. Click Download Tally XML to get the generated banking voucher envelope.
  5. In Tally Prime, press Alt + O → Import → Transactions. All bank entries are booked with reference numbers and narrations intact.
